Buy safely, from anywhere
Most export watches change hands three times. Ours change hands once.
A watch leaving Japan usually passes from the seller to a shop, to a wholesaler, to an exporter, and each stop takes a margin. We are the shop, the wholesaler and the exporter, so there is only one.
Bought over our own counter
Every watch we trade is acquired at one of our four KAITORA buying counters in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, handed over by the Japanese owner, to us. You are buying from the company that acquired the watch, not from the fourth dealer in the chain.
Authenticated before it enters stock
We check movement, case, bracelet, serial and guarantee card together, using the same in-house authentication system we license to our franchise stores. Nothing is offered to you before it has passed.
Japanese-market condition
Japan's domestic pre-owned market is unusually well kept: box, card and service history tend to survive. We describe condition in plain words and tell you what is missing before you pay, not after.
Licensed, and you can check it
Second-hand Dealer Licence No. 304402318473, issued by the Tokyo Metropolitan Public Safety Commission. Our transactions are supervised by Seika Law Office. Company name, registered address and phone number are printed at the bottom of this page. Verify us before you send money anywhere.

The Japanese guarantee card
The 保証書 travels with the watch.
A watch sold new in Japan comes with a guarantee card stamped by the authorised retailer: model, serial number, date of purchase, shop name. It is the single most useful piece of provenance a pre-owned watch can carry, and it is one reason the Japanese market is worth buying from.
Where a watch has its original card, the card ships with it and we photograph it for you before you pay. Where a watch has no card, we say so on the listing and price it accordingly. We would rather lose a sale than describe papers we cannot put in the box.

From your message to your wrist, in four steps
Tell us the reference
Send the brand and reference number you are after. If it is not in our current book, we look for it through the buying network we already run in Japan.
Photos, condition, landed quote
You get the full photo set, the honest condition notes, and a quote that already includes shipping and insurance, so the number you see is the number you send.
Payment
Bank transfer to our corporate account in Tokyo or Hong Kong. Trade buyers can be invoiced against agreed terms.
Insured, tracked, door to door
We handle the Japanese export paperwork and ship fully insured and tracked. Most destinations arrive within about a week; customs clearance in your country can add to that.

Business-to-business distribution is our main line of work. We supply dealers and platforms from Tokyo and through MA-RU HK LIMITED, our Hong Kong entity. If you buy at volume, send your want list rather than a single reference.

Shipping, duty and payment

Cross-border buying goes wrong on the boring details, so here they are before you ask.
- Export from Japan
- Goods shipped abroad leave Japan without Japanese consumption tax. We prepare the export documentation.
- Duty and VAT at your end
- Import duty, VAT or GST are payable by you in the destination country and are not part of our quote.
- Carrier and insurance
- Insured, tracked, door-to-door courier. The insured value is the full purchase value, not a declared minimum.
- Transit time
- About a week to most destinations once payment clears. Customs clearance in your country can add days.
- Payment
- Bank transfer to our corporate account in Tokyo or Hong Kong. Trade buyers can be invoiced.
- Before you pay
- Photographs of the watch, the serial and the card, plus a written condition note and the final landed figure.

Questions
Before you send money to anyone
How do I know the watch is genuine?
Every piece is inspected in Japan before it is offered: movement, case, bracelet, serial number and guarantee card, checked against each other rather than one at a time. We will send you close-up photographs of the serial, the movement and the card before you pay, and we are happy to do a live video call with the watch in hand.
I have never bought a watch from overseas. How do I know you are a real company?
We are MA-RU Inc. (株式会社まーる), registered at Tsuchiya Bldg. Shibuya 5F, 3-15-3 Shibuya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0002, Japan, holding Second-hand Dealer Licence No. 304402318473 from the Tokyo Metropolitan Public Safety Commission. We run four physical buying stores in Japan and a Hong Kong entity, MA-RU HK LIMITED. Our corporate site is https://maaaru.co.jp/ and our legal counsel is Seika Law Office. Please check all of it before you transfer money to anyone, including us.
Does the original guarantee card come with the watch?
Where the watch has its original Japanese guarantee card (保証書), the card ships with it and we photograph it for you first. Where a watch has no card, we say so in the listing and price it accordingly. We do not claim full papers on a watch that does not have them.
Can I see more photos or a video before I commit?
Yes. Ask for whatever you want to see: dial under angled light, case back, lug holes, bracelet stretch, the card. We would rather answer twenty questions than have a watch come back.
What about import duty and VAT in my country?
Goods exported from Japan leave without Japanese consumption tax. Import duty, VAT or GST in the destination country are the buyer's responsibility and are not included in our quote. The rate depends on your country and on whether you are importing as a business, so please confirm the treatment with your own customs broker. We are not able to give tax advice.
Which countries do you ship to?
We ship worldwide by insured, tracked courier. A small number of destinations are restricted by the carrier or by insurance limits on high-value goods, so tell us where you are and we will confirm before you commit to anything.
Can I pay in USD or EUR?
Tell us which currency you want to settle in when you enquire and we will confirm what we can accept and the rate applied. Prices shown on this page are indicative conversions from our JPY book.
Do you buy watches as well as sell them?
Yes, and buying is where the business starts. We buy over the counter in Japan through our KAITORA stores. If you are in Japan and selling, the Japanese pages of this site are for you.
